2016 – The 8th Annual Linwood Summit Gathering

We have been privileged to host the Neighborhood Picnic that we call the Linwood Summit Gathering for EIGHT YEARS now!  It’s a family event and we look forward to seeing old friends and welcome new friends.

This year’s Picnic will be Saturday 13 August 2016.

We typically aim to eat around 6:00pm but stay flexible.

If you have seen the yard sign bringing you to this website, YOU are invited – the sign in the yard is your invitation.  Some of our neighbors don’t notice the sign – please help us get the word out.

As always, we don’t require anything from you to stop in and join us.  We do love trying new things so we consider it a special treat when people bring a dish to share.  And if you have any personal beverages you want to bring, that’s cool too -we really like it when someone brings adult beverages to share :).  We’ll have our standard summer picnic fare – cold water, some soda (y’all call it pop), lemonade, burgers, hot dogs, and smoked/grilled chicken.

You might bring a chair if you can.

RSVP is not required, but it would be helpful if we had some idea of how many folks are coming and what they’re bringing. Email at Picnic@KeyesComputer.com, stop by, call or hit Cindy on FB.

We’re looking forward to seeing y’all!

Thanks for stopping by…

We had a great time seeing all of you again and even got to meet some new neighbors!  We are blessed.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

We are planning to have another open house this Christmas Eve.  If you have nothing else to do on Christmas Eve, stop in and say hey.

Love y’all.

The 7th Annual (2015) Neighborhood Gathering at Linwood Summit

Hey Ya’ll!

It’s that time again.

This year’s Picnic will be Saturday 15 August 2015.

We’re aiming at about 6:00pm to commence Grubbage (eating).

Weather permitting, we’ll have a bouncer or two up.  Around dark, we’ll likely gather around the firepit.

YOU are invited – the sign in the yard is your invitation.  Some of our neighbors don’t notice the sign – please help us get the word out.

A dish to share would be appreciated (not required) and what you want to drink.  We’ll have water, some soda (y’all call it pop), lemonade, burgers, hot dogs, and smoked/grilled chicken. We’re open to requests and suggestions as well.  Heck, bring your roadkill, we’ll slap it on the grill (you gotta take the first bite, though).  Also bring a chair if you can.

The 2014 (6th Annual) Gathering at LinwoodSummit – 9 Aug 2014

Hi Folks,

It’s already the middle of JULY 2014!  The summer that we waited so long for is almost half over.  That means it’s time for the little block party we know as the Gathering at LinwoodSummit!

We’ve settled on Saturday the 9th of August.  We plan to have grub available around 6:00pm.  Around dark, we’ll likely gather around the firepit.  I think we’re planning a movie as well.

As always, YOU are invited.  If you want something other than water or lemonade to drink, feel free to bring it (share?).  Also bring a chair if you can.

It’s nice to have an idea how many people to plan for, so an email (picnic@keyescomputer.com), comment on here, a phone call, or a visit is appreciated.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

The 5th Annual Linwood Summit Gathering

A great big ‘Thank You!’ to everyone who stopped by and made this years gathering one to remember.

A feature this year was the ‘Owens Puppies’.  The Owens’s brought their 4 week old puppies over to meet the neighborhood.  They were well received by not only the people in attendance, but also the dogs – Sara, of course, and Zasha, Toby, and Tripp.  Angel even stopped by for a few minutes.

A bonus menu item this year was Paul’s brisket.  A little bit of Texas for ya!  Sux for you if you missed it!

Also this year, we featured a raffle for several baskets (girly smelly candles for one, an ArmorAll basket for the guys, etc.)  It seemed to be received well, we’ll likely do it next year.

A few folks mentioned the possibility of a neighborhood Christmas gathering – maybe a White Elephant sort of thing.  We’re interested.  If you have a thought, let us know.  I CAN tell you that there’s a real good chance that this Halloween, there will be someone Trick-or-Treating with a shot glass and a beer mug… 🙂

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Austin is darn near on fire – literally

Article link http://news.yahoo.com/officials-1-000-texas-homes-burned-past-week-141938698.html

Bastrop is home to several dear friends of ours and we know of at least 3 families who have lost their homes in this inferno.  Over the years, we have spent LOTS of time at these folks houses.

My gosh, flooding can be a terrible thing to deal with, but this truly scares me.

Prayers for these people are appreciated.

Aug 22 City Council Meeting

Wow!  I just got back from the City Council ‘pre-meeting’.  I saw over 100 unhappy people there.  Mr. Grimes (North Canton Director of Administration) started the meeting with a presentation to the Council.  Afterward, several residents spoke about their experiences and frustrations concerning flooding / sewer backups and the recent flooding in particular.

I picked up several interesting tidbits and ideas and will try to put them in a readable form over the next several days and share them with you.  I’ll also work on getting a meeting transcript posted here.

The overriding themes at the meeting seemed to be that “the city has a problem, and has known about it for a long time”, “the problem is getting worse”, “a multi-jurisdictional effort is going to be required to deal with the problem” and “it’s going to take time and money to fix it”.

…more later…
